خان الخليلي
I loved how the author described the village and how he made all the characters very human. Despite the book having a simple story, the author's underlying message was that there is nothing perfect. Nobody is perfect and no place is perfect. The story is set in the 1940s, in the world war and it tells the story of a family who moves from their neighborhood to another neighborhood named Khan Al Khalili (Title of the book) for safety purposes. Two brothers fall in love with the same girl. Who is going to get the girl? You have read to know this. But don't get it wrong. Although love is a big part of the book but it is not all what the book is about. I would call the story more relating to humanity and human nature in different situations than just being about love.
I would recommend you reading this. Nice reading.
This was a great depiction of Arab men and how love exists, or doesn't, in the Middle East. The second half of the book, I actually felt for characters I hated during the first half. Not much happens and there is too much staring out the window at a minor, but I could see it being enjoyable for anyone interested in Egypt or in Arab culture.

Perhaps the most heart-breaking book I've ever read! It flattened me towards the end. An old-style emotional masterpiece. This was a great depiction of Arab men and how love exists, or doesn't, in the Middle East.
