The whole time I was reading this I kept hearing Rory Gilmore in my head, "I told him I liked his Allende."The stories in it are great, magical, and extremely...interesting. These were much easier for me to follow than some of the other magical realism anthologies I read this semester, but they weren't always enough to keep me from putting it down every few pages.4.5 not a fan of short stories, I tend to lag behind on the previous characters as we move on to others, I like one continuous plot, but some of these stories were so lyrical I am glad I broke my rules and read this.
This book is one of my top 20 novels. I loved it so much that after borrowing it from the library and reading it, I sought and purchased a hard copy for my own library. I read this novel before I read Eva Luna, and the reverse order did not detract from my enjoyment. Sensual and mesmerizing, the narrative surrounding the story reminded me of another favorite, Tales of the 1001 Nights. The book "The Stories of Eva Luna" by, Isabel Allende was amazing. I loved how the author divided many short stories and put it all in one book. These stories gave me various and mixed emotions. However my favorite story "Wicked Girl" was in the beginning of the book. This story shocked me because I never thought of any conflict in a relationship the way the author described it. This is, as they say. not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force.The writing was quite good. There were one or two lovely stories. The other 21 fixated on child sex abuse and the idea that disabled people are better off dead.I really need to get a rubber stamp that says ABLEIST TRASH.But yeah, no. It was terrific. I loved it.

In many ways, The Story of Eva Luna is Allende at her best: sensual and startling, heavy with magical realism, and handling serious issues with beauty and gravity.
