Crit About Books The Sunflower
I really enjoyed reading this book! If you enjoy realistic fiction, I highly recommend this book! It first takes off as one of the main characters, Christine is heart broken by her fiance calling off the wedding. A friend of hers recommends going on a mission trip to Peru. There is an orphanage call El Garasol.(AKA The Sunflower)After much persuasion, Christine decides to go on the trip. While this part of the story is taking place, there is another story going on too. Paul Cook, a emergency

As much as I have schemed and planned to the contrary, the most central experiences of my life have all been accidents. Christines heart is broken when her fiancé calls off their wedding a few days before its supposed to happen. To try and get her mind off her heart, Christines best friend signs them up for a trip to Peru where they will sight-see a bit, but mostly work to help people less fortunate than themselves. At first, Christine does not want to go, but is finally convinced. Their first

I really did not like this book as much as I thought I would. I was confused in the beginning, since the two stories had not merged. I did enjoy the basic plot, a portion of the characters, and the setting. I felt like I was really in Peru with the characters because of the desciption. But some of the characters I thought were very one dimensional, in contrast to the well developed main characters. But even the main characters did not satisfy me in how their personalities were presented and

I bought this book two years ago, on a whim, because I liked the cover :P I haven't really read a book which tackles issues like this before. It follows the story of Paul, a doctor (there is a very vivid scene about his time in a hospital to get the feel) turned humanitarian, and Christine, a dentist (we don't see her background in this field). It is a love story, yes, but also, just barely. It talks about poverty, child trafficking, the sex trade that children are sold into, how people live and

Quick easy read. Great story.

Reading the reviews and description of this book did not adequately prepare me for how deeply it would touch me. The romance itself was cute but cliche. There wasn't a lot that was original with it and I was expecting pretty much everything that happened. The part I loved was reading about the orphanage and the kids. It was the kind of book that made a difference in my real life. I'm so inspired to look beyond my own life and do more to make the world a better place.

I liked this book, it made me want to go back to the exciting giddy times of dating (specifically dating my husband.)
