ySimply a great work, at once a confrontation with death, with the tormented beauty of Palestine, with the intricacies of the poet's relationship with his shadow and his multiple selves, his heritage and an imagined future. Darwish reminds me at times of Whitman, at times of the Sufi mystics, but, as translated by John Berger and Rema Hammami, his voice is absolutely his. Mahmoud Darwish is widely considered to be the greatest poet to come from Palestine. The poems in this collection come from his later works, but throughout his writing career, he has focused on ideas of loss and longing, which fits with his identity as a Palestinian man who yearns for the postponed return of his homeland. I'm not the biggest poetry reader, but I did enjoy reading his verse, and I do recommend.
Wish I had the Arabic and Alongside it I just think it would be much more beautiful The original language.
One can loses himself, and it's the toughest battle.
I'm in love. I'm awestruck by how surreal it felt reading this; such intricacy - absolutely phenomenal.
THE Darwich...epic as usual.a perfect portrait about life and death....what it means to die...ehat fi we leave behind...how the author is welcoming death...you cant but enjoy any work written by this grand master
